WELCOME TO MAITHRI EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE TRUST

"The world is moved along not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker" said Helen Keller. That tiny push is Maithri Educational & Charitable Trust working for the cause of the needy and the underprivileged.

Maithri Educational & Charitable Trust was founded in the year 1991, with the objective of the trust is to provide financial assistance for education to meritorious students from the economically weaker or broken households who would otherwise be forced into child labor. Financial assistance comprises of school fees, books, notebooks, uniform & shoes. Once a child is taken under the care of the Trust, this assistance goes on till he or she completes school. Which in other words mean, that if we take a child when it is in class 1 then this support is extended for the next 12 years. It's a long commitment. We at Maithri hold the words of Bruce Barton close to our heart: "Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared to believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance".

Started with 20 children under its care, now the trust has 140 students whose educational needs are being looked after. The beneficiaries are academically good students from poor families. We believe that once a child is given good education that would serve as good foundation for future life. Our mission thus stands guaranteed, "You help us. We help the helpless so that they help themselves". So far, more than 250 have been benefited though our Trust, 10 of who are Engineers, well settled in the US and the Middle East. They stand to prove our Vision education is the prime motivating and uplifting force.

Maithri also has a longstanding service record in the field of organizing medical facilities for the underprivileged and physically challenged. Regular Health camps have been conducted in rural areas, during which deserving cases are identified and brought to the city for further treatment and surgery. Numerous Cataracts (implanting IOL ) and other Eye Surgeries have been successfully done. Assistance is offered for scanning and emergency kidney dialysis. With the assistance of State Bank of India Community Development Services we have opened a well-equipped unit for free or very low cost Physiotherapy to the differently-abled and economically weaker sections of society in Chennai. Now this unit is functioning in Valasaravakam too.

The Trust also provides regular supply of medicines for children affected by motor deficiency and elders who are under Medicare but cannot afford the annual expenditure. The cost of providing this service amounts to Rs. 70,000 (seventy thousand rupees). Contributions are welcome for sustaining the service. Contributions are also made made towards the Insulin Bank. We have distributed 15 calipers, 10 wheel chairs and 20 hearing sewing machines as small business starters

The Trust undertakes emergency disaster relief, and our volunteers have provided their services during the Uttarkashi earthquake, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh cyclones, the Gujarat earthquake and last year's Tsunami.

Maithri Education and Charitable Trust was founded in 1991 with fulfilling the Vision of "You help us, We help the helpless So that they help themselves".

A strong will of a differently abled and desire with an empty pocket to help fellow human beings in whatever little way possible, Rajaram Sreedhar started the Trust way back in 1983 as unregistered endeavor.

One old friend of the Founder donated Rs 1000 & with this money as the Corpus the Trust was registered in 1991.

A little later the first major donation of Rs 3000 came from a gentleman who was on his way to Saudi Arabia. This was utilized to educate a visually impaired student.

Today if we are supporting nearly 200 children it is only because of the support from our donors –individuals, organizations in India & overseas.

We have been spreading the ambit of our coverage, hence demanding more funds. We request you to extend donations for catering to sustenance and endowment plans, the amount received under Donations are exempted from Income Tax U/S 80G of the Income Tax Act – 1961, Vide No. Dit (E) No. --------.
